We had an opportunity to exchange our timeshare into a beachfront property on Hilton Head Island in South Carolina. We had always hoped to visit the South and tour historic areas. It turned out that that the end of May was a good time before it got too hot and humid. We flew into Savannah Georgia. Here is a picture of the old River Street with the cobblestone road.

Tybee Island wasn't too far away so we took a detour to eat at the famous Crab Shack. The shrimp and crab legs were so fresh and tasty! You can see the hole on the table where you just push all your shells. We also ate at Paula Deen's restaurant in Savannah as well as Mrs. Wilkes Boarding House. Salty, fried, fatty food -yummy!

Stacey and Eric were able to make the 4 hour drive to join us for a few days. We had fun riding all over the many paths and even the beach. We even parked them awhile to play miniature golf.

The Rhett Mansion in beautiful Beaufort. This ended up a hospital during the Civil War.

Bruce and Debby were able to fly out and join us as well. This 2 hour walking tour of Beaufort was one of our highlights of the whole trip!

The guys took advantage of the many golf courses in the area. They shared the course with a friendly alligator! Well, friendly at a distance.

Eating was one of our favorite pastimes. Here we are at the Country Club for lunch after golf.

We had a delicious dinner at the Old Fort Pub on the Skull River, an old Civil War Fort.

One of the gorgeous mansions with the moss draped trees. We also toured Charleston for more history lessons, and sampling lots of pralines and other Southern delights!

A trip to the South wouldn't be complete without a meal at a Cracker Barrel Restaurant and a chance to use their rocking chairs on the porch. It was a great time with friends and family!
